In the spring of 2018 and 2019, I walked the pilgrimage from St Jean Pied de Port in southern France to Santiago de Compostela an inspiring 815 km hike. The Camino shells are a symbol of Camino de Santiago, aka St James Way. It is customary for pilgrims to wear St James Scallops on their back packs as a symbol for their undertaking. Most have simple scallop shells 'au natural'. However, I converted mine into a special art effort and carried the Alpha-Omega (or Aleph-Tav in proto-Hebrew signs) for the whole Way. I also prepared four other shells for my family who accompanied me for sections on my Camino, or cheered me on along the way.
Refraction is one of my other Camino artworks, inspired directly by the Cathedral of Léon.
