Eggscape

Info

Eggscape

Eggscape depicts a landscape of eggs, with Donji the friendly spirit peeling away an egg shell to make a river flow. In the distance, a creature is having fun on a cable car strung between two eggs. Two loving eggs are sitting under a lamp post gazing into the distance. An egg-spider is climbing the back of one of them, perhaps cracking his outer shell towards more openness.

Escapement

Escapement shows a family scene whereby each family member is seeking escape. The man is opening the window, holding on to the child wanting to climb out. Cracks are appearing in the shell that links both together. The woman outside is waving to a visitor leaving by horse cart and she seems to want to disappear into the wall. The goose walking up behind her symbolises loyalty. The toad in the clock indicates transformation and upcoming change. On the right, a small Donji is walking off towards the mountains in the distance.

Timepiece
Watching you
in a piece of time
a movement
oscillates my balance
through a slow dance
my hands reach out
pointing determined
nonetheless
offering escapement
of time ethereal

Ethereal

Info

Ethereal

Ethereal was originally planned to be a depiction of Via Sacra leading to a Roman forum, with egg shaped pillars on each side of the road. In the course of drawing the temple, my inspiration led me elsewhere and the temple building turned into a woman’s body. Two spirits holding hands is all that remains from my vision of a temple, their halo now accentuating her womanly shapes. From there the woman’s figure took further shape… although the pillars at her shoulders still hinting at an alternative reality. A hand that represents us as spectators reaches out to determine which of the images is true or imagination. On the right side, the friendly spirit Donji is breaking through the egg pillar and looking out towards us, curious of what will happen next.

Egg Series

Artists sometimes get grabbed by a certain theme or a shape, without a particularly obvious reason, but this then appears to stick, at least for a while. Early 2017, I was similarly grabbed by …. egg shapes. Eggs as menhirs, Eggs as loving couples, Eggs as water springs, Eggs as cable car towers, Eggs as shoulders, legs and feet… My eggs were turning up everywhere in every conceivable object. No wonder then that the works in this series have a distinct surrealist feel to them. At the same time my eggs flourished, I also started to add colour to my works, marking the end of my ‘grey period’.
