Lipizzaner Series
During one of my holidays we visited the famous stud farm of the Lipizzan horses in Lipica, Slovenia. It is one of the few stud farms where you can come up close and personal with the famous studs that hold the bloodline of this wellknown horse breed. It was a great opportunity to get inspiration for an art series about these magnificent horses. These are my first works after a long absence of doing my arts. In fact, the “facing horsehead” drawing was the first one and illustrative of what my style would be: details standing out from a more sketchy background, a penchant for foreshortening and a free interpretation style.
The Lipizzaner is a breed of horse closely associated with the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria, where they demonstrate the haute école or "high school" movements of classical dressage. The school takes its name from the original Spanish heritage of its Lipizzaner breed, the Spanish Andalusian horse. The Lipizzan breed dates back to the 16th century and is named after one of the earliest stud farms established, located near the village of Lipica (spelled "Lipizza" in Italian), in modern-day Slovenia.
