Angel of Planets

Info

Angel of Planets

This work was a spin off from the “Birth of the Silver Moon 1” creation. When you observe the latter, you see a little space rock between the knees of the female form ‘Cosmic’. This is all that remains of a much bigger idea, visible in Angel of Planets. It was created very much in a free flow format (while normally I go through great lengths to study before my art creation commences) and quite unexpectedly a little prince emerged.

Angels' faces
in fleeting clouds
perform a parody of idols
hiding their godlike traces
behind shredded shrouds

Atlas

Info

Atlas

Atlas, named after the Titan that shoulders the world, is weighed down by his great burden. We humans have not made this burden lighter with the way we have stamped on our planet with a population that is still growing. As we are the appointed custodians of our world by God, His Eye is on us while we pollute his creation. There is a lot of symbolism in this work. The pupil of the eye represents fertility, with Adam and Eve holding each other in a tender embrace. On the right side there is a spiral that represents our population growth rate, weighing heavy on the foot that distorts the order in the world. The glass orb underneath has an image of the North Pole, covered in carbon black, causing polar ice to melt and our planet to heat up even faster. The work is a rallying cry to open our eyes to what is in front of us, we must do better.

The Greek Myths: “The sons of Uranus mostly pass from our knowing, for no bard sings in praise of the defeated. The noble but misguided Atlas, for allying himself with his uncle Cronus, is forever compelled to shoulder the tremendous burdens of the heavens.”

Planet Series

The universe and its contents is a great source of inspiration for my art. Genesis series and Birth of the Silver Moon series are good reflections of this. I have a number of new ideas of art works that are inspired by space and planets. Hence, I decided to make a dedicated series on this theme. More to come – akang datang.
